Valeting Through the Winter

At Wright Shine, we take pride in delivering every booked mobile valeting service or detailing appointment to the exceptionally high standard our customers expect—regardless of the season.
Winter, however, presents a unique set of challenges. Being a fully mobile business means we work outdoors on driveways
and roadsides, so weather conditions can occasionally influence what we’re safely able to carry out.

While we always push to complete scheduled appointments, certain services—particularly
paintwork coatings—require dry conditions to apply correctly.
On rainy days, these may need to be moved to a later date to ensure the coating bonds properly and achieves the durability
and finish it’s designed for. All other valets are completed wherever possible throughout the winter months.

Challenges of Valeting in Winter

Freezing temperatures introduce a different set of considerations when it comes to valeting in winter. When the temperature
drops below 0°C, the water in our onboard tanks can freeze, leaving us unable to safely operate. Even when the air
temperature is slightly above freezing, water may still freeze on contact with cold vehicle panels. This can create a risk
of light scratching—exactly the kind of damage our valeting process is designed to prevent.

For reference, you can read practical guidance on safe winter driving and car care from the AA here:

On days like this, we may need to reschedule appointments at short notice. While we understand the inconvenience this may
cause, our priority is maintaining the level of care, protection, and finish your vehicle deserves. We will never carry
out work if conditions mean we can’t deliver results we’re proud of.

Is Washing a Car in Snow Safe?

Customers often ask whether washing a car in snow or sub-zero conditions is safe. In many cases, it isn’t. When
temperatures are extremely low, water can freeze instantly on the paint, trapping dirt and increasing the risk of
micro-scratches.

For a general overview of safe car washing principles, you may find the RAC’s guidance useful:

We carefully assess each job to ensure the conditions allow us to work safely without compromising your vehicle’s finish.
If the weather makes washing unsafe, we’ll always notify you and reschedule as soon as possible.

Our Commitment to Quality—Whatever the Weather

Winter may bring harsher conditions, but our approach remains the same: to provide the best possible
mobile valeting service while protecting your vehicle and ensuring a
flawless finish. If a cold snap or icy morning disrupts your booking, we’ll keep you updated and get you rebooked as
soon as conditions allow.

Frequently Asked Questions (Winter Valeting & Car Care)

1. Can I get mobile valeting during freezing weather?

Yes, but only when conditions are safe. If temperatures fall below freezing, our water tanks or the water on your vehicle’s
paint can freeze, making safe valeting impossible. In these cases, we’ll reschedule your appointment to maintain the
quality of your finish.

2. Is it safe to wash my car in snow or icy conditions?

Generally, no. Washing a car in snow or on freezing mornings can cause water to instantly freeze on panels, trapping dirt
and increasing the risk of micro-scratching.

3. What winter-specific car care services do you offer?

We continue to provide most
mobile valeting
services through the winter. Some treatments, like paint protection coatings, may be rescheduled if rain or freezing
temperatures prevent proper application.

4. How can I protect my car’s paint in winter?

Regular maintenance washes, decontamination, and protective layers (sealants or ceramic coatings) are the best way to
defend against road salt, grime, and harsh weather.

5. Why might my winter valet be rescheduled last minute?

Our priority is protecting your vehicle. If temperatures cause water to freeze on contact—or if rain or snow prevents a
safe, scratch-free wash—we’ll rearrange your booking to ensure we only work when we can deliver our usual premium standard.

6. Do you offer winter car detailing in South West London & Surrey?

Yes — we provide professional mobile car valeting and detailing throughout South West London and Surrey, weather permitting.
We’ll always keep you updated if conditions affect your appointment.
